Gamers everywhere were all taken by surprise when the Nintendo Switch was officially unveiled. A lot of feedback heard from players was mostly positive, according to reports. The console's unique approach to gaming and its gimmicks stole the spotlight from other brands, but the lack of game choices for its launch appear to have stolen some its thunder.
As of now, the company appears to be relying a lot on "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," to move units during launch day. Another first-party game coming out for the game system is their 1-2-Switch, which seems like a collection of mini games designed to showcase the Joycon's capabilities. Game Rant notes that the remaining few titles are from third-party publishers only. Meanwhile, other high-profile titles are set to launch a few months after.
According to other reports, fans have criticized Nintendo for its lackluster list of games for the Nintendo Switch during its official release day. However the company's president Tatsumi Kimishima stood by the company's decision to launch the hardware with only a few games available. Apparently, their intention was to control the flow of software, to supposedly keep consumers engaged until the next major title releases.
Kimishima noted that most consumers view the first roster of titles as disappointing, says Gamespot. The executive claims that individuals who have seen the list comment that "the launch lineup is weak." Planning the Switch's 2017 game lineup is crucial to provide a regular stream of games "without long gaps," he adds.
Nintendo has encountered these so called software droughts on their Wii U and 3DS, which had long periods without any significant game releases. Sources say the company has done a fantastic job to promote the Nintendo Switch. However, like most successful game consoles, it is apparently important to have great software for market longevity.
