“The Walking Dead: A New Frontier” is Telltale’s continuation of their successful “The Walking Dead” franchise. What is new in the game? Is it worth playing?
Game Rant is first to share news on the changes and improvements introduced in “The Walking Dead: A New Frontier” compared to the first two seasons. The biggest change and one which fans will notice from the very beginning is the shift in main character. Javier is the new controllable character whose struggles players will follow. Clementine is also introduced in the series, but playable only through flashbacks, where current time events are experienced through Javier. Good news is that players can import Season 1 and Season 2 saves, so Clementine can be the character that they grew fond of during previous plays.
One of the weak points of “The Walking Dead: A New Fortier” is also one of its strongest tools. This is the emotional connection which the player gains through experiencing the game’s events together with their character, Mirror UK reports. “A New Frontier” can be played separately from the first two seasons, but it is the emotional connection which players have with Clementine that makes her part in the story interesting. Even though still quite affecting, it does not have the same influence over players who are just starting the franchise to those, who have played it over the last couple of years.
A review by IGN summarizes the effect of the series’ two new released episodes.
Even though it is still quite affecting on emotional level, the traps in which a player can put himself have gained some repetition, which breaks off the element of surprise, which keeps the players going on. Besides that, the game is still going strong and its story is as enticing as it has always been. “The Walking Dead: A New Frontier” is available on PC, PS 4, XBOX One, Phones and Tablets.
