'Dragon Quest XI' Release Date, News & Update: Square Enix Invites Gamers to Lotozetasia & Ishi Village; Introduces Camus & Emma

Just in time for the holidays, Square Enix has unveiled some details about the upcoming "Dragon Quest XI," which does not have a release date attached to it at the moment. The upcoming RPG is set to be released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and Switch. For every console, there are special features that Square Enix unveiled, as well.

According to Gematsu, the PlayStation 4 version of "Dragon Quest XI" will feature vivid environments, including trees, flowers, and monsters against "vast and beautiful fields" as a backdrop. For those who will play on the Nintendo 3DS, there will be a "3D Mode" on the upper part of the screen and a "2D Mode" in the lower part of the screen. Gamers will be able to switch between modes by heading to a specific place in the game.

Meanwhile, Square Enix invites gamers to Lotozetasia and Ishi Village, where "Dragon Quest XI" takes place. The world of "Dragon Quest XI" is called Lotozetasia, where a sacred tree named "The Great Tree of Life" is located at the center. The protagonist A.K.A. the gamer, has the ability to communicate with this magical tree. Ishi Village, on the other hand, is the hometown of the protagonist and is the starting point of the game. It is described as a "small, quiet village" in the valley area.

In "Dragon Quest XI," gamers will find that residents of Ishi Village must participate in a coming of age ceremony once they turn 16 years old. The tradition involves climbing "God's Rock," a mountain where spirits live. Both the protagonist and his friend and ally, Emma were born on the same day and climbed "God's Rock" together.

According to PlayStation Lifestyle, "Dragon Quest XI" gamers will also find an ally in Camus, a blue-haired thief with a "strong sense of duty and a warm heart." Gamers will find that like in Harry Potter, the protagonist's birthmark on his hand will glow whenever a crisis occurs. Gamers will also discover how the protagonist is actually a reincarnation of a hero that saved the world in the past. "Dragon Quest XI" is set to arrive sometime in 2017.
