Nintendo has been enjoying quite a ride in the mobile gaming sector with the success of the “Pokemon Go” and “Super Mario Run” brands. The latest word out is that the Japanese company plans to add more mobile games moving forward.
This was the latest bit from Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima who bared that they plan to launch several more mobile games from 2017 and beyond, Kyoto NP reported. For next year alone, two to three new mobile games are planned pegged to pick up from the success of “Pokemon Go” and “Super Mario Run”.
“Super Mario Run” has done well since it debuted earlier this month, the fastest mobile game to pass the 25 million download mark in just a week. On what apps to expect in 2017, Kimishima did not delve into specifics.
Some of the titles could be a couple of games that Nintendo announced they were working on earlier this year. That included “Animal Crossing” and “Fire Emblem” which took a backseat to focus on “Super Mario Run”, BGR reported.
While all that should be something to look forward to, it would be best to note that the success of “Super Mario Run” has been impressive despite the fact that there is only an iOS version out. An Android version is being waited on, meaning the numbers mentioned above are expected to skyrocket further.
As for “Pokemon Go”, credit really goes to Niantic for keeping the augmented reality game at the top of the game app charts. But as far as IP rights are concerned, Nintendo still comes to mind.
Either way, succeeding game apps from Nintendo will have a lot of ground to cover to uphold the success of “Pokemon Go” and “Super Mario Run”. The Japanese gaming company has a lot of game titles on its end, including “Zelda” and the beloved “Donkey Kong” among others.
