Developer whose behind the success of "Robinson: The Journey" and CryEngine toolset, Crytek, is now facing financial difficulties that forced them to close five studios. It also leads with the late payroll for their employees since there are only two studios remain open.
Crytek's publisher released a statement saying that the company will concentrate with their two remaining studios: Frankfurt and Kiev for the meantime. Offices from Budapest, Istanbul, Sofia, Bulgaria, and Shanghai will be closed. However, Crytek Black Sea from Sofia and Bulgaria studios was up for sale. Though they are facing financial difficulties, everyone can still expect that they will continue to develop and work on their premium IPs.
Avni Yerli, co-founder and managing director of Crytek stated, "Our focus now lies entirely on the core strengths that have always defined Crytek--world-class developers, state-of-the-art technology, and innovative game development, and we believe that going through this challenging process will make us a more agile, viable, and attractive studio, primed for future success."
In regard to this matter, Kotaku reported that employees from Frankfurt studio haven't received payment for the last three months. Workers of Crytek from Budapest and Sofia left without any payments. The management did not release any statements to explain for not giving last payments and when will be the possible date for the releasing of payments for their remaining employees. Due of the months with unpaid wages, some workers were forced to quit and leave the company.
However, this was not the first time that Crytek experienced financial difficulties. Way back in 2014, the company was also faced the same situation. It was the year when they decided to sell the UK studio to Deep Silver, publisher of "Metro: Last Light". Together with these, the company also sold the rights of "Homefront: The Revelation" to the same publisher.
Despite the crisis, the company wanted to be positive that they will successfully surpass this problem. The managing editor also thanked their employees who remained hard-working and continues to be committed to Crytek developer.
