During an interview with IGN, "24" star Kiefer Sutherland recently revealed that he's picked up some more video game work. He's going to be voicing Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 5 games but he's also going to be voicing a character in the still-unannounced Mortal Kombat sequel.
Unsurprisingly, he says the job was a bit easier than Metal Gear Solid. "I did Mortal Kombat, and that's such a huge game, but it's so not like [MGS5]." Considering that Konami's franchsie is known for its thousand page scripts and lengthy cutscenes this isn't a surprise, although of course Mortal Kombat has been steadily expanding their campaign modes and storyline with each installment.
Sutherland has been working on Metal Gear Solid for over a year, but Mortal Kombat was completed "pretty quickly compared to [Metal Gear Solid 5]". His role wasn't specified just yet but let the rumors begin- could Snake be playable in the game? (Hey, he's already in Super Smash Bros!) How about Jack Baeuer? It'd be nice to see him ripping spines out.
Sutherland is no stranger to doing voiceover work, as he played Sgt. Roebuck in Call of Duty: World at War and Jack Bauer in 24: Redemption. These two games will definitely be his most high-profile ones to date, though.
NetherRealm Studios (of Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us fame) would be the likely choice for developer, as they've shown Warner Bros. multiple times that they know how to make a brutal, exciting fighting game that sells wonderfully. The last Mortal Kombat launched in 2011 so it's definitely time for an update. More as we hear it.
