To those who have been waiting for more details about the new BlackBerry DTEK70, which will be internally known as BlackBerry Mercury, can expect more of this update on the upcoming CES 2017 event.
Last week, the Canadian tech giant has just signed a global software and brand licensing agreement with TCL Communication. This will give TCL a license to create, market, and sell devices made under the BlackBerry brand.
Of course, this announcement did not come as a surprise to many who have been hearing several unofficial reports about BlackBerry giving up its device-manufacturing arm. Instead, BlackBerry will just devote its remaining resources in software development, while retaining the brand.
Now, TCL's Steve Cistulli, President, and GM for North America has dropped some hints as to what would the new BlackBerry would look like. Last months, leaked images of the BlackBerry DTEK70 have spread like a wildfire in Chinese social networking site Weibo. The company has neither deny nor confirm the leaked images.
On the same day the agreement between BlackBerry and TCL has been publicly released, Cistulli tweeted, which for many, provides a glimpse to what will be expected of the upcoming BlackBerry device.
The tech executive tweeted an old model of a typewriter Remington No. 2 of 1878, while spreading the hashtag #TheNewBlackBerry. It's sure that Cistulli is making the excitement over the new BlackBerry to flare up before the company officially announces it.
But it seems that exited BlackBerry users may have to wait a little much longer as official announcement for the new device would probably be released during the CES 2017 event.
"Very exciting news. Can't wait to share more at #CES2017 #TheNewBlackBerry," Cistulli tweeted on December 16. The Remington No. 2 of 1878 is an old typewriter with sleeky aesthetics. It features a QWERTY keyboard with circular white keys.
