There are only a few months left until the Nintendo Switch makes its much-awaited debut. Details about what else the Nintendo Switch can do remain shrouded in mystery but recent reports have surfaced that the console is capable of supporting virtual reality.
The patent for the Nintendo Switch was leaked by NeoGAF user Rosti, an online forum for avid gaming geeks. Information on the patent, including photos and descriptions, confirmed that games can be played anywhere using the two controllers. Hence, the name "Switch," allowing the player to use it both at home and on the go. Furthermore, there are clues in the patent that strongly hint of the console being capable of virtual reality.
One of the images in the NeoGAF report showed something that looked like a virtual reality headset for the Nintendo Switch. The document called it a head-mounted display and according to Venturebeat, there would be a slot in front of the lenses where the Switch's screen could be put in. The news outlet noted that this is very much like the Gear VR and Daydream View for smartphone users. Although virtual reality was not mentioned in the patent, the headset device strongly points to this use for the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has not marketed the Nintendo Switch as capable for virtual reality technology, but it's possible that the company plans on announcing this as the release date for the console draws nearer. There is also a possibility that they are saving this for a separate release. To maintain the hype for the Switch, Nintendo might decide to release it after the console makes its way to the market.
Nintendo has yet to give an official announcement regarding virtual reality support for the Nintendo Switch so for now, check out these games that will be playable on the console. What other features would you like to see on the Nintendo Switch?
