Bethesda Softworks has announced that the release date for The Evil Within is Auust 26th, 2014 in North America and then on August 29th throughout Europe. It's currently in development for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3, and PC. (The horror, Wii U... the horror.)
This is the latest game from legendary director Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame and naturally its goal is to absolutely terrify you. It's supposed to use a blend of story and action to make you a nervous wreck of a human being. There's a twelve-minute gameplay trailer out there that shows you just how brutal it looks, very much a return to form for the director, something akin to Resident Evil 4. There's action, sure, but it does seem that there's much more survival horror at play here as the game tries to make you feel weak and powerless and hounded by horrific forces. The graphics for the Xbox One and PS4 versions are something else, too.
The official synopsis- "While investigating the scene of a gruesome mass murder, Detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partners encounter a mysterious and powerful force. After seeing the slaughter of fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror, and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel what's behind this evil force."'
