Dead Island Epidemic, which has the handy and appropriate acronym of DIE, is the latest in the popular zombie series but you might not recognize it. The PC game doesn't look anything like its first-person predecessors, instead taking the form of a Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) similar to League of Legends.
One thing this game promises over full WASD control over your hero- you're not clicking around and waiting for your character to move around and attack, you do everything yourself. The regular mode features three teams of four players fighting to grab supplies and hold points and of course dealing with zombies every step of the way. As in the previous titles Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide you'll be able to craft your own weapons to make your characters more dangerous.
"We received outstanding feedback from our Alpha testers and are looking very much forward to many new players who will join us and help us to make Dead Island: Epidemic the best possible ZOMBA experience", says Isaac Parakhen, Brand Manager for Dead Island: Epidemic at Deep Silver. "Once the Closed Beta starts, we can't wait to see players battling it out 24/7."
Yes, they're calling DIE a ZOMBA instead of a MOBA (a Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena). Acronyms!
Sign up for the Beta on their site playdie.net. (It's currently Windows-only, although Mac gamers will be able to get in on the full game.) If you're chosen you'll join a group of 30,000 gamers already battling it out in the alpha. As another benefit of being in the beta you'll receive exclusive in-game items and rewards which they can keep when the full game is released.
Good luck and enjoy bashing those zombies in with stop signs! Anyone who doesn't get in, never fear, the game will be released soon enough, and it will be free-to-play.
