Good or bad result, 2017 is the year of Nintendo Switch where the newest console will carve its way through the gaming world. Question is: what games will support Nintendo Switch and are they solid enough to elevate the company back to the fast lane?
Everything about Nintendo Switch is a mystery, sometimes too much to the point of positive hype turning nightmarish. The question about lineup should have been answered months ago when gamers are trying to balance their decision whether to purchase Nintendo Switch or not. Unfortunately, even developers have limited idea about its capabilities and some starts to doubt.
Yes, there are big shot developers who expressed their support to Nintendo Switch and are willing to make their games under cross-platform scheme. Bethesda Softworks for instance, said that they will carry Nintendo Switch so long as the console can handle the hardware requirements of their games. However, vice president Pete Hines himself made an example out of "Prey" and expressed his worry that Nintendo Switch might not accommodate the game.
"Prey" demands muscle from any console, Nintendo Switch included and it appears that there are limitations within this parameter. Hines said that they were talking about the possibility of launching "Prey" with Nintendo Switch but they can't conclude yet due to Nintendo's secrecy.
While Bethesda is a confirmed Nintendo Switch partner and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" will eventually appear on its game library, "Prey" is a whole different argument. This up and coming game requires huge resources, given its open-world environment and lighting plus visuals. Can Nintendo Switch handle such requisites?
Remember that Nintendo Switch competitors, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is out of the question when "Prey" launches. Given Hines answer, Australian site Finder has two conclusions regarding the matter. First is possibility that even Bethesda doesn't know much about Nintendo Switch or the game developer can't decide if they need to optimize the game to accommodate the console.
