Dimming the DualShock 4 Controller's Lightbar for the PlayStation 4

Want to Dim the DualShock 4 Controller's Light Bar? Try This.

Seems not everyone's a fan of the way the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controller lights up a room, and not just metaphorically. The glow that thing gives off is enough to convince a rooster to start its morning crow.

Since Sony seems content to just the leave the light going like a Harry Dixon Loes gospel number (Google it), one enterprising eBayer with a creative flair came up with this clever little number to keep the light at bay.

Of the many decals currently for sale from Flaming Toast, he also happens to be selling a nifty decal pack for use exclusively with the PlayStation 4 controller, that covers enough of the DualShock 4 light bar to make it several bars below "annoying." They also happen to look pretty damn cool to boot, available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and famous gaming icons, sigils, logos, etc.

Seen below, you'll notice the Nolan bat signal, a Resistance alien skull, a nice triforce design, Assassin's Creed logo, the Helghast Triad from Killzone, even the dragon sigil from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and others.

The creator is even open to other designs provided the ones provided aren't up your alley, and all for cheap. Of the seven packs offered, each goes for less than a fivespot (before shipping and handling at least). Good timing too, as it looks like there's no change in sight for this virtual flashlight.

In mid-January, a fan asked Sony head honcho Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter if a firmware update would ever let fans disable the lightbar. Yoshida's response? A simple
"No." So there's that...

First introduced about this time last year, Sony stated that light bar is needed to identify players in local multiplayer games. It's also used in conjunction with the PS Eye, and actually serves a function in certain games -- in Killzone: Shadow Fall for example, the light changes from green to red as a creative way to display player health.
