The Nintendo Switch is coming with VR. A new set of Nintendo patents has shown an accessory that can be the NX's conduit to the virtual reality.
The new patents show that Nintendo is planning to join the VR landscape. In GameXplain's YouTube video, several patents contained vital information about Nintendo's hybrid console.
The accessory referred as HMD, or head mounted display, appears to work like a VR headset. It's like Google and Samsung's smartphone VR peripherals. It works by attaching the Switch tablet into the HMD. The Nintendo Switch news has generated excitement for NX's prospective buyers.
The Joycon Controllers Might Be The Switch's Motion Controls
The patents also show that the detachable Joycon's are usable while using the headset. Basing on the patent, there is a possibility that the controllers can function as the VR motion controls. So far, Nintendo has not confirmed the possibility.
The Nintendo Switch will house most of the sensors. According to a NeoGaf user, the patent description shows that it'll use sensors to track the head. It will be using acceleration and angular sensors to perform movement tracking. But the patent also contradicts the previous statement. It stated that the console might not contain the sensors to track. Instead, the head mounted display will have to do the tracking.
Fans Will Have To Take The Patents With A Grain Of Salt Regarding The Nintendo Switch's VR Headset
Nintendo Switch fans will have to take the news with a grain of salt. As with previous patents, the filing does not mean the accessory will out for consumers. As of the moment, Nintendo is considering the possibility. The company is safeguarding its research on a virtual reality mashup.
Tatsumi Kimishima did reveal the Nintendo Switch will feature more accessories in the future. The president of Nintendo is mum about the news. But the company did previously confirm that they are researching VR. There has been no official statement from Nintendo with regards to the new patents.
