The Highlights of DayZ Developer Dean "Rocket" Hall's Reddit AMA

Dean Hall Waxes Philosophical on DayZ, a Zombie Outbreak, and Drinking Pee

The man, the myth, the kiwi. The one and only Dean "Rocket" Hall, the man that took a simple mod and turned it into a stand alone video game, (DayZ, maybe you've heard of it) took part in one of Reddit's famed AMAs (Ask Me Anything) recently, and fielded a wide variety of questions, ranging from the the history of development and future of the game, to his utter enjoyment of bread.

With thousands of questions, rooting through it can be a bit of chore, so we've narrowed down some of the more "intersting" responses involving life's mysteris and what's going to happen with DayZ. Since this is a video game site, that's what we'll get to first, beginning with additions and alterations to gameplay and game features:

On future additions to DayZ - Bases, vehicles, etc.
* "Vehicles will be done based on the architecture we are doing for items/weapons now (i.e. attachments). So it's in progress really. We are replacing the physics system for items (throwing, etc...) and this new middleware will be used for vehicles also...Bases will take longer. Barricades will happen first."

Plans for adding aircrafts
* "Yes. I think helicopters and small aircraft will be important. But they should be very complex to maintain."

On adding different types of shelters
* "We have a plan for camping. Playing that mod for Skyrim (survival mod, forget its name) is GREAT inspiration and I hope we can do everything it has." <>Note, mod mentioned was Frostfall for any curious parties

Additions considered that would take teamwork and resources, e.g, getting a power station running, fortifying buildings, etc.
* "Yes, this kind of endgame stuff is quite key to what we want to do. However, in order to do this we have to perfect the architecture which is what we are doing now. Certainly I think underground bases and advanced vehicles will allow some of this really exciting and eve' style play."
