Since Grand Theft Auto V's fall release, PC gamers have kept their fingers crossed in hopes that Rockstar would bring the game over to them, but despite the massive amount of rumors and whisperings of a PC port, Rockstar has kept its mouth shut on the possibility. Of course, there's yet another rumor that's surface, giving credence to the concept.
Not long after the game's release in mid-September, a supposed bug log popped up citing a PC build of the game. Maybe you heard about it. The file made its way out via an XML file, but more recently, it popped up on a public Google drive server. It's time there was brief, but did allow more people to get an eye's worth, such as the staff of PC Gamer.
According to the mag, the list has numerous references to a PC versions. And by "numerous," I mean "over 170," including "development bugs, numerous notes on DX11 support and a related 'smog' (for that traditional LA touch), weather setting, mention of a 'lastgen' toggle used during development and bugs relating to 64-bit system testing."
Also included are notes from Rockstar staff, like programmer Robert Schmitz and level designer Kenneth Ross.
But is it legit? Rockstar's not saying. With the document coming in at 150 pages, the sheer amount of text one would have to write to fake it is mind-boggling, but after all that dedication put into that Fallout 4 hoax site, I'm not taking anything off the table until Rockstar says something on the matter.
The last time we heard discussion of a PC version of GTA V was a little over a week ago, when the CEO of Nuuvem, a Brazillian digital distribution called Nuuvem, claimed that the version of the game would arrive in March. Other rumors and speculations have come from similarly non-reputable sources, be they Amazon Germany, unnamed informants, or anyone else with no immediate connection to Rockstar staff.
Despite a petition to bring the game to PC with signatures numbering in the hundreds of thousands, Rockstar hasn't commented on a PC release for the game. To date, the only official word on a PC release came from Rockstar Vice President Dan Houser, who said, "we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time."
