The upcoming television show, "Star Trek: Discovery" have finally cast their lead character. Fans of "The Walking Dead" may be familiar with Sonequa Martin-Green since she is one of the characters of the survival zombie series. The actress is now on her way to star in the series that is set in the universe of "Star Trek.
The details regarding "Star Trek: Discovery" that the main character will be female has been known for a while now. However, it was revealed recently Sonequa Martin-Green will play the role of Lt. Cmdr. Rainsford. It is also interesting that the show will be departing from the norm of starring captains in "Star Trek" installments. Bryan Fuller, one of the producers of the series, has stated that they want to try something unique for "Discovery."
Sonequa Martin-Green earned her popularity with her role as Sasha in "The Walking Dead" who was first introduced during the third season of the show. Even though she will soon star in "Star Trek Discovery," Martin-Green will still remain in her role in AMC's The Walking Dead.
Furthermore, some Klingons have already been cast for "Star Trek: Discovery" and they will be played by Shazad Latif from "Penny Dreadful," Chris Obi of "Ghost in the Shell," and Mary Chieffo who is known for her role in "Shelby's Vacation." Other cast members that will also join Martin-Green are Anthony Rap as Lt. Stamets, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou.
"Star Trek: Discovery" is anticipated to be released in May 2017 and the first season will consist of 13 episodes. The debut of the television series will be shown on CBS then the next set of episodes will be viewed at All Access digital subscription service which is also owned by the network. The show will also be available for subscribers of Netflix even for those who are situated outside the United States and Canada.
