Let's face it. Even if you've never played a single game in the series, we all want information on a new Half-Life game, if only to confirm it's actually a thing, or just so everyone could shut up about it already. But in the last few years, Valve co-founder and head honcho Gabe Newell has been steadfast in keeping his and all Valve worker bees lips sealed on the matter. But all isn't lost yet. Newell recently appeared on a Reddit thread, promising to do an AMA (Ask Me Anything), provided donations to the Seattle Children's Heart Center can be raised in the amount of $500,000.
Newell is encouraging donations to be made via The Heart of Racing, and once the number hits half a mill, Newell's life becomes an open book. I ca't guarantee you'll get the information you're looking for from the AMA, but this is your best shot, and it's all for a good cause, right?
Despite popular misconceptions, gamers and developers alike can be a truly charitable bunch, and the organization is proud to have Newell on their team, describing him as "what all drivers and teams want-an engaged, passionate owner. While his financial resources and commitment are critical, it's his curiosity for the world of motorsports that sets him apart. He's learning our industry so quickly and is committed to understanding it. He is directly involved in every aspect of building our team and is contributing new ideas in ways like no other owner we've ever seen. It's refreshing and exciting. But most importantly, Gabe wants to win on the track as much as he wants us to make a significant difference in the lives of the kids at Seattle Children's."
It was Newell's interest in the sport that first spurned the AMA offer, as it was initially made in thread of a motorsports sub-reddit, and as there've been dozens of requests in the last few years for the site to feature Newell in an AMA.
Donations can be made by clicking this link and filling out a small pledge form in which a dollar amount is given for each lap of "24 Hours at Daytona." The race itself will be held January 25-26, so for you fans hungry for Half-Life, time to put your money where your mouth is.
