Console peripheral and third-party accessory manufacturer Nyko has had a good year in terms of products that gained instant popularity among fans when the company decided to make them available for the public. The company marked its hard work at this year’s CES when it revealed the Intercool for the PlayStation 4, alongside a new PowerPak battery that replaces the DualShock 4′s normal battery.
The PlayStation 4-based Intercool from Nyko attaches to the back of your console to ensure that the only thing that’s hot will be the gameplay experience and not the console. Apart from that, the PowerPak, which replaces the DualShock 4’s normal battery, features a 1000 mAh cell that doubles the DualShock 4′s overall standard battery capacity and in turn offers two times the normal play time.
The Nyko-made Intercooler for the PS4 has been designed to connect with the rear of the console and help in dispersing heat via built-in fans. Digital Trends state that the attachment “is almost invisible once the console is tucked away in your media center, and it’s designed to ensure that the various ports on the rear side of the PS4 are still easily accessible.”
And while there haven’t been any complaints in the recent past regarding an over-heated PlayStation 4 console, the Intercool still seems like quite a solid option for the future of the console.
The PowerPak add-on battery, on the other hand, slots into the USB charging port on the back of the DualShock 4 controller.
While the PS4 controller normally is rated at 6-8 hours of uninterrupted play time with the already built-in 1,000 mAh support, the PowerPak (which also offers 1000 mAh) effectively doubles that usage time.
“The battery is shaped to mirror the back of the DualShock 4, so while it adds some heft to the controller, it’s still compatible with the cradle in Nyko’s Charge Base.”
“For PS4 owners with a single controller that don’t have the luxury of being able to switch to another controller during a long, battery draining gaming sessions, this simple addition is a major improvement to the DualShock 4,” the report adds.
As of now, both the PowerPak and the Intercooler are scheduled for Spring 2014 release, with a price tag of $19.99 and $24.99, respectively.
