A spin-off of "How I Met Your Mother" is reportedly in early development development. The series will reportedly have "HIMYM" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas serve as executive producers.
The prospective series will be titled, "How I met Your Father," Deadline reported. "This Is Us" executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will create the series. The two have been a writing team for more than nine years and have recently emerged as key writer-producers recently.A spin-off of "How I Met Your Mother" is reportedly in early development development. Note that while "HIMYM" aired in CBS, the same is not necessarily the case for the spin-off, Screen Rant reported. The script is underway and will reportedly be shipped to different networks for 2017-2018 tv season. Therefore, there is a chance that it could fall on another network.
Since it is still in a very early stage of development, there is no assurance yet that it will be picked up for a full series. However, considering the warm reception to "This Is Us" that has earned a few Golden Globe nominations on its maiden season, things are looking up for the project.
"HIMYM" flew largely underrated on its first few seasons until it earned some ground and subsequently won accolades. Its final episode was the most watched in the series' history with 12.9 million viewers with an impressive 5.3 rating in 18-49 demographic. In case the spin-off pans out or in the event that there will be a reunion, the series' star Jason Segal has said that he is open return.
In 2014, another spin-off has been ordered by CBS titled, "How I Met Your Dad." However, the project did not pan out because several elements of the pilot reportedly did not workout.
