After recently acquiring social media company LinkedIn, Microsoft received another piece of good news as more and more people are now switching to Microsoft Surface from MacBook. Users made the jump due to their disappointment with the MacBook. Aside from that, the company's trade-in program also tempted people to switch to the Surface.
Aside from their frustration, certain features of the MacBook also had users thinking about. There is no support for 32GB options and the high price. Add to that is the polarizing Touch Bar of the Surface that replace the function keys which is one of the reasons for the switch.
Sales of Surface laptops have increased particularly in November, which Microsoft considers as the "best month ever for Surface sales." Although it is still just speculations without the actual sales figures, Microsoft claims that indeed more and more people are ditching the MacBook in favor of the Surface. The company's Mac-for-Surface trade-in program, which offered $650 to consumers who will trade their Macbook for a Surface, also contributed to the switch.
Aside from Surface sales, Microsoft is also making available its new Surface Book with Performance Base. The device is now available in Australia and New Zealand and will reach Austria, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland, and the UK the following quarter. Microsoft's all-in-one conference system, the Surface Hub, also did well surpassing expectations. In a span of nine months, Microsoft has shipped Surface Hubs to more than 2,000 customers in 24 countries.
With the Surface Hub, Microsoft is targeting the enterprise market. The average order is 50 units with one anonymous car manufacturer getting 1,500 units of the Hub. There are two versions of the Surface Hub- 55-inch and 84-inch, costing $8,999 and $21,999, respectively. Microsoft is aiming to boost sales of the Surface Hub by launching a try-and-buy program. Here customers will be allowed to try out the device before committing to purchase.
