It's been more than 2 years that "How I met your Mother" end and now there is this news that the co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are working on the series' spin-off. This is the second attempt at the spin-off. Previously, there was a pilot entitled "How I met Your Dad" right after "How I met Your Mother" ended. It was scripted by executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with Emily Spivey. However, to the utter surprise of the fans, CBS rejected the pilot. But work on the spinoff is progressing.
Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are presently writing the script for the new spinoff for 20th Century Fox Television. The show will be entitled "How I met your Father", confirmed Variety. The report also stated that the makers approach different channels and they are aiming at 2017-2018 TV season to air the series. The project will be pitched to both streaming venues and broadcast. Whether CBS is interested in the project is not revealed.
According to Deadline, "How I met Your Mother" spin-off will be told from a female perspective. But it will not be a typical spinoff. The series will have a completely different take on the premise and also will have new characters in it.
Interestingly, CBS ordered the pilot for "How I met your Mother" spinoff in 2014. But the pilot starring Greta Gerwig was rejected. The network also offered for a repilot but CBS and 20th Century Fox did not accept the redevelopment terms. Then CBS boss Nina Tassler stated that the network is considering redevelopment of the pilot but the studio and creators did not accept the terms of redevelopment.
Meanwhile, Aptaker and Berger are the key writers of the drama series "This is Us". They have scripted several episodes of the series. "This Is Us" creator Dan Fogelman recruited the duo after they worked in ABC's "The Neighbors".
