Fans are eagerly anticipating the "Resident Evil" franchise's next iteration with "Resident Evil 7: BioHazard," and the demo has shown a bit of the return to form that has the gaming world buzzing lately. With the dark and spine-chilling atmosphere, it does look like Capcom has been going back to the roots of the series. However, there isn't a lot of details yet regarding the combat, which is a major part of the gameplay.
The last two "Resident Evil" games have featured a lot of gun play, and it was feared that this game will do a complete 180-degree turn due to the first-person perspective and emphasis on exploration that's reminiscent of Konami's "P.T." But according to producer Masachika Kawata in an interview with GamingBolt, there will be a whole arsenal of weapons in the game, although there's a catch.
"You're going to be pitted up in situations where you're still going to have to fight. You're going to get a nice arsenal of weaponry. So, that element you're not going to see too much of a difference. The one thing I do want to point out though is the fact that the weapons aren't going to be that easy to find. So, until you find them and have that advantage you're probably going to be running around considerably a lot more."
Scarcity is a major aspect of survival horror gameplay, so the bit on weapons being not easy to find is in line with that. However, previous games mostly made items and ammunition scarce, but not weapons. Simply being rid of combat altogether would make for a disappointment for fans as "Resident Evil" had always been about combat, even when it can be argued that the last two installments had a bit too much of it.
This direction seems to be a good compromise for Capcom while still potentially offering a different gameplay experience in "Resident Evil 7: BioHazard" as players will be doing a lot more running around and looking for weapons in order to survive. If the demo is anything to go by, the stunning visual and environmental design won't hurt either.
Meanwhile, viewers of "The Walking Dead" most likely saw the "Resident Evil 7: BioHazard" TV spot that aired recently. It does seem to be a good move as fans of a TV show about zombies may be interested in a game that has zombies in it. With "Resident Evil 7: BioHazard" gearing up for release on January 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, giving those fans of the show focused on a zombie apocalypse a chance to kill zombies themselves seem to be the right choice.
