Back in March, Blue Isle admitted it was giving some consideration to releasing its terrifying Slender: The Arrival on consoles. Now, it looks like it's finally happening. A press release from publisher Midnight City declares that the company is planning a digital release for the game on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in the next few months.
What's more, the port is also getting two brand new "flashback" levels to celebrate its "Arrival" on consoles. Here's the official blurb:
"The only official Slender Man game, Slender: The Arrival, is back to scare your pants off with two new levels created for its console debut. Blue Isle Studios has gone back to the brink of insanity to bring even more new content to Slender Man fans, all with a smooth layer of polish for console audiences. Featuring the hallmark terror, insanity and paranoia of the original, the latest iteration will delve deeper into the lives of those Slender Man has touched. Once players complete the core game, they'll gain access to new flashback levels that will put them in the shoes of Slender Man's victims. Slender: The Arrival is the definitive Slender Man experience on console that taps into the powers of loss, fear and curiosity. Blue Isle Studios plans to release new console content as a free update to the standalone PC and Steam versions following the release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Based on the popular Slenderman mythos, The Arrival is the fully fleshed out follow-up of Slender: The Eight Pages, a short but sweet free to play title that swept the 'net in the summer of 2012.
If you never heard of the lanky entity, he's the quintessential example of the modern day urban legend. Whereas once upon a time, tales of the escaped mental patient with a hook for a hand were once shared around a campfire, similarly structured stories are now spread through the internet. Initially beginning as a thread dedicated to creating scary images through photo manipulation at Something Awful's forum in 2009. Then it spread like cancer to various other sites and publications including Fangoria, Bungie, Kongregate, DeviantArt, Mythical Creatures Guide, 4chan, and others.
Blue Isle teamed with Joseph DeLage, Troy Wagner, and Tim Sutton, creators of the Slenderman video series "Marble Hornets" to develop The Arrival's story. While he's been the subject of multiple fan fictions, and pseudo, Slender: The Arrival represents the tall man's first "official" videogame debut as a commercial release. The game hit Steam this fall. Check out our Slender: The Arrival review to see if the game is worth giving a go once it hits Xbox Live and the PSN.
