Ubisoft is keeping the support going for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag going, releasing a new DLC pack that's available today on all platforms. Titled Illustrious Pirates, it's not a story DLC like Freedom Cry. Instead, the DLC is more an accessory pack than anything else, but at least it's something.
Ubisoft detailed the DLC in a new post on its blog. It consists mostly of new outfits and items for the game's multiplayer mode, and a few new islands to explore. Ubisoft refers to the islands as "missions," but that's a bit of a loose definition. Here's what it offers exactly:
- Black Island - Single-player mission
- The Black Ship
- Captain Morgan's Outfit, Picture and Title
- Captain Morgan's Silver Flintlock Pistols
- Mystery Island - Single-player mission
- Digital Illustrated Fable
- Stede Bonnet's Ship
- Stede Bonnet's Outfits
- Other Multiplayer Items
- Sacrifice Island - Single-player mission
- Captain Drake's Picture, Title and Relics - Multiplayer item
- Captain Drake's Swords and Pistols
- Ivory Wheel - Decorative wheel for your ship
- Iron Wheel - Decorative wheel for your ship
- Discoverer Title and Picture - Multiplayer item
- Astrolab Relic - Multiplayer item
- Compass Relic - Multiplayer item
- Cartographer Picture and Titler - Multiplayer item
- German Rapier Swords
- Spyglass Relic - Multiplayer item
- Watch Title and Picture - Multiplayer item
The DLC is free for anyone with the game's Season Pass, and $7 for everyone else.
Black Flag is the first prequel in the Creed franchise, and sees players controlling AC3 protagonist Connor's grandfather, Edward Kenway, a former Royal Navy man for the British crown turned pirating privateer in the blue waters of the Caribbean. The game takes place somewhere around 1713, long before the last time we saw any vestige of the assassins, the American Revolution. The colonial frontier of the new world has traded in for the warm waterfronts of Nassau, Havana, and Kingston, with historical figures such as the infamous pirate Blackbeard, Calico Jack, Charles Vane, and others are set to appear.
The game is currently available for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, for which it was named Game of the Year by the PlayStation Blog.
