The identity of the newcomer set to hit Ultra Street Fighter 4 when the game is out later this summer is beginning to get narrowed down a wee bit. Executive producer of the historical fighter, Yoshinori Ono, made an apparance at this year's Capcom Cup where he stated that the fighter would be a femme fatale. Producer Tomoaki Ayano confirmed the news in a recent interview with Famatsu, as translated by Shoryuken.
Ayano didnt' share much more information besides that, only that it's just a rumor the character's name starts with "R," and as previously indicated, is more than likely that she was a nonplayable character in a previous game. According to Ayano, "If it was a playable female character then there are only a handful left."
No more specifics were shared by Ayano or Ono, but Siliconera is claiming a source who's shared that the character has the following, additional traits:
* It is a character that isn't on anyone's radar.
* The character will be a perfect fit for the Street Fighter universe.
* She is in the Street Fighter comics.
Since the character is a confirmed female, and Ayano has said it's just a rumor that the character's name begins with "R," that means gamers can see goodbye to the possibility that the character is Retsu from the original Street Fighter game. This theory was proposed and popularized after a piece of concept art appeared .
Looking to the comics, Shoryuken suspects Sarai Kurosawa, a friend of Ibuki who appeared in the UDON manga series and Ibuki's Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike ending. She also makes a cameo in Street Fighter X Tekken, speaking with fellow ninja, Tekken's Kunimitsu.
This would fit with Ayano's hinting as the character appearing before, but not as a playable character. Similarly, Capcom's Senior Product Manager, Matt Dahlgren, has previously stated that the character has "never been featured in a Street Figher game up until now." Appearing briefly in the background surely doesn't qualify as "featured," wouldn't you agree?
Capcom announced today that players can expect the latest SF addition and its four new fighters this summer. Despite the recent launches of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Ultra's release is limited to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It brings in former Capcom combatants Rolento, Hugo, Poison, and Elena.
Players have the option of either upgrading their existing copies of Street Fighter IV, obviously a bit cheaper, or they can wait until a complete bundle hits retailers. Availability also depends on what platform you have.
Here's the breakdown:
- Players wanting to go digital for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 can do so in June. The upgrade will cost $14.99. PC players will have to be patient, as they won't have the option for an upgrade until August.
- August is the same month that the retail version happens to arrive, which will cost $39.99, and includes all the previously released costumes.
- Because PC players have to wait, their patience will be rewarded. Also in August, there will be a special deal on the digital bundle that offers all the costumes, priced lower than the retail version at $29.99.
Besides the new characters, players will also get six new stages, all of which featured in Street Fighter X Tekken: Cosmic Elevator, Mad Gear Hideout, Jurassic Era Research Facility, Blast Furnace, and Pitstop 109.
It also includes new combos, tweaks, and fixes a bevy of balancing issues.
