In a recent exclusive interview with FIFA, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos shared his thoughts on several matters, such as his preference for Carlos Ancelotti's time in the club.
Sergio Ramos started by reminiscing about winning the Golden Ball at the FIFA Club World Cup two years ago, saying "I've got great memories of that tournament. It was my first Club World Cup and, having won la Décima (Real Madrid's tenth Champions League title), it was a great challenge, both collectively and individually."
But despite winning several trophies and titles already, the Real Madrid defender is always keen to have one more added to his name. "It's really important to get another piece of silverware in your trophy cabinet. It's also great for a professional player to be able to wear the Champions Badge for a year. We'd like to get it back as we had to pass it on last year," Ramos said, referring to Barcelona's win.
Sergio Ramos is known recently for scoring last-minute goals in critical matches and saving Real Madrid from the jaws of defeat. But despite how great the year has been for him, the Real Madrid captain still prefers their time under Carlos Ancelotti. He mentions that "Every season is very intense but I think that one, with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, was very consistent. I think we played truly excellent football and we maintained our rhythm."
He does acknowledge the tip-top shape the squad has been under Zinedine Zidane, saying "We're doing a good job. The structure and the core of the squad is the same, and that's healthy for the team. We've got a better understanding with each other, and we're on the same wavelength on the pitch too." Sergio Ramos also emphasized that the club can't get ahead of themselves despite their unbeaten streak right now. "You have to stay focused on the next match, because objectives can only be achieved step by step."
This year end season, Sergio Ramos would like a happy ending to an already great year. The next goal is to win Real Madrid's second FIFA Club World Cup crown. He adds that "We have new goals to achieve, and new records to break. There are always new challenges."
