Disney has been making live movie adaptations for the past years now and every year, the company has been successful in bringing the characters to life in the big screen. With "Maleficent" and "Cinderella" proving to be a blockbuster success, it seems Disney will try its luck with the upcoming live adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" in 2017 and "Mulan" in 2018.
What we know so far from 'Mulan' November 2018 release
"Mulan" has been a long working progress for a Disney live adaptation movie when it was proposed in 2010. Disney has been quick to assert that the specific script was only intended as a starting point and Disney also plans that "Mulan" will be played by a Chinese cast.
So far, rumors have been circulating online that "Mulan" will be played by the Asian-American actress Jamie Chung. As of now, there are no official announcements whatsoever from Disney if the "Premier Rush" actress will reprise the titular character in 2018.
Meanwhile, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" director Ang Lee was offered to direct the live adaptation of "Mulan." However, Ang Lee denied the seat and stated that a Chinese director with huge Chinese heritage background should direct "Mulan" to match the film's culture and story.
"Mulan" will also compose of writers, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," while Disney is still looking for the right director to direct "Mulan." Soon, there will be a confirmation of who will take the seat to bring "Mulan" to the big screen especially that time is of the essence.
There are also speculations that Disney plans to apply 4K graphic rendering for "Mulan" in November 2018. A 48fps configuration could be applied to "Mulan", if ever the movie adaptation will have its greenlight.
