If you were looking for a game to pick up that you've perhaps missed out on for any of your gaming devices bearing the name of Sony, here's a few suggestions. A new post on the PlayStation Blog has declared that the votes are in, and the Game of the Year winners for the respective PlayStation platforms have been named.
Surprising no one, the biggest game for the PlayStation 3, as well as a nominee for Game of the Year from a number of other outlets, is Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. The story of humanity eeking out a living decades after a pandemic struck, the PS3 exclusive title arrived in June, and was reviewed favorably by just about everyone, and currently holds an impressive rating of 95 at Metacritic.
Critics were also eyeing Rockstar's latest opus, Grand Theft Auto V as a possible contender, but just couldn't compare. The site also wrote that "Ni No Kuni and BioShock Infinite rounded out the list of winners, though it's worth noting that Beyond: Two Souls and Tomb Raider both saw robust support."
Looking to next-gen, the PlayStation 4 titles were up for review, despite the console only being out for roughly one month of the year. Also notable is the fact that the winner was neither a PlayStation or next-gen exclusive, with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag taking the treasure. Reads the post, "Ubisoft Montreal's seafaring epic Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag scored the Platinum award despite fierce competition from Killzone Shadow Fall. Battlefield 4 and PlayStation Store shoot 'em up Resogun also secured award positions, with Call of Duty: Ghosts and Knack seeing plenty of votes despite not making the winner's circle."
Funny, speaking of Resogun, the title may not have been enough to beat out the rest of the PS4 titles, but it did take home the trophy as the best digital release of the year. Far Cry 3's standalone DLC Blood Dragon was a close second, followed by Guacamelee!, Hotline Miami, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
Looking towards the mobile PS Vita, it was all about Tearaway, followed by Killzone Mercenary, Rayman Legends, and Soul Sacrifice.
Those were the hits of 2013, but what about next year? The PS Blog has you covered there too, dubbing Sucker Punch's inFamous: Second Son as the most anticipated title gamers are looking forward to, as well as Watch Dogs, and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
