The list of the 2017 Golden Globes nomination is now up, much to the surprise of many viewers across the world. While several deserving names were almost a no-brainer (Damien Chazelle's "La La Land," Martin Scorsese's "Silence," Clint Eastwood's "Sully," "Stranger Things" and "Westworld"), there were a few surprising names, like the Ryan Reynolds-starred "Deadpool" on Best Musical. Here's the complete guide to the 2017 Golden Globes nominations: the expected, the underdogs, the strange and the snubs.
The expected
As expected, the much talked-about Damien Chazelle musical, "La La Land," is topbilling the nominees for Best Musical or Comedy. It's going up against "Florence Foster Jenkins," "Sing Street," "20th Century Women" and, surprisingly, "Deadpool." Its lead star, Emma Stone, is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, while her partner, Ryan Gosling, is nominated for the counterpart award in this year's 2017 Golden Globes Award.
"Moonlight," on the other hand, leads the nominees for Best Motion Picture-Drama in the 2017 Golden Globes Awards. It's going up against "Hell or High Water," "Lion," "Manchester by the Sea," and "Hacksaw Ridge." Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali are both nominated for Best Performance by an Actress /Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, respectively.
The Underdog
Meanwhile, Netflix's "Stranger Things" and HBO's "Westworld" are both going up against veteran "Game of Thrones" in this year's 2017 Golden Globes Awards. Winona Ryder, star of the Netflix sleeper hit, is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress, marking her comeback in the Golden Globes awarding.
The snubs
Unfortunately, this means that television shows like "Insecure" and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" were snubbed for the TV awards. Similarly, the kids from "Stranger Things" also failed to make the cut in the 2017 Golden Globes awards. The 2017 Golden Globes awards will happen in January next year, and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
