"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" has received a massive update with a stack of new maps, game modes, items, and even -- for the first time -- female combatants. Activision says that its latest supply drop for "Call of Duty 4" is codenamed "Operation Arctic Wolf."
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" Female Characters
With the update, which was released on Tuesday, Dec. 13, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" fans get a bunch of new characters, including female fighters. This is the first time that "Modern Warfare" has received playable female characters.
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" Maps
Aside from the new characters, the new update for "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" also includes six additional maps for its multiplayer mode. The remastered edition of "Modern Warfare," which launched in November, initially came with 10 maps. The new December update adds more to the game, increasing the total number of maps to 16.
The new maps include Bloc, Pipeline, Strike, Countdown, Showdown, and Wet Work. Apart from these, Activision says that there is a special Winter Crash map that has tons of Christmas Easter eggs scattered all around. This is a Christmas-themed revamp of the original Crash map. But unlike the original, which was only available for the PC, the new Winter Crash map will be playable on consoles. In a Twitter post on Tuesday, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" designer Amos Hodge wrote, "Today, Winter Crash will be added into the map rotation on any playlist that contains the normal Crash map."
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" New Game Modes, Items
In addition, the December update adds two new game modes -- Hardpoint and Gun Game -- to "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered." The first-person shooter video game will also get new personalization items, including combat uniforms, weapon camos, calling cards, emblems, melee weapons, reticles, and weapon customization pieces. Activision says that two special weapon camos -- Gift Wrap and Ugly Sweater -- can be unlocked for each weapon class by finishing challenges in the Winter Crash map.
The new personalization items can be crafted using the Parts crafting currency in "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered." They can also be earned organically via supply drops. IGN says that in November, a data mining leak found possible clues to upcoming microtransactions in "Modern Warfare."
The 24/7 Winter Crash playlist for "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" will be made available on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Meanwhile, a limited segment of "Call of Duty 4: Infinite Warfare" will be playable for free beginning Thursday, Dec. 15. The playable parts include the first two missions, Zombies in Spaceland (level cap of 3), and the multiplayer mode (level cap of 15).
