With the February trade deadline drawing near, the rumor mills are starting to buzz even louder with possible trade talks being discussed all around the NBA. Recent rumors are saying that the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics are involved in a possible trade involving the Brooklyn Nets' starting center Brook Lopez.
According to the proposed deal, the Brooklyn Nets will send starting center Brook Lopez to the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics will then send forward Jonas Jerebko, forward/center Tyler Zeller and their own 2018 first round draft pick that was coming from the Boston Celtics. The proposed trade, if it does pushes through, would definitely benefit both the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics.
The Brooklyn Nets showed some promise at the start of the season. But ever since Jeremy Lin went down with a strained left hamstring back in Nov. 2, the Brooklyn Nets are on a downward spiral. The Brooklyn Nets are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-17 record. It's safe to say that the Nets most probably won't make the playoffs this season. It's time to start thinking about rebuilding and tanking the season.
Trading Brook Lopez would be a good start. So far this 2016-2017 NBA season, Brook Lopez has been pretty solid for the Brooklyn Nets. Brook Lopez has been averaging 20.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocks per game in 28.3 minutes of playing time.
Aside from Jeremy Lin, Brook Lopez has been one of the few bright spots of the Brooklyn Nets' dismal season. But despite those numbers, the Brooklyn Nets has not made any signifiacnt improvement on tehir performance. Maybe it's time to make a change. By trading away Brook Lopez, the Brooklyn Nets would get two reliable big men in Jonas Jerebko and Tyler Zeller. Plus, if the Brooklyn Nets tanked this season, they might get lucky and win the number one pick in the lottery for the 2017 NBA Draft. The Nets also have a first round draft pick for 2018.
The Boston Celtics, on the other hand would be getting a big boost with the acquisition of Brook Lopez. Brook Lopez would be a great compliment for All Star forward Al Horford. The 28 year old seven footer would definitely fill in the need of an inside presence for the Boston Celtics. For the Boston Celtics, Brook Lopez might be the missing link that would propel them on top of the standings and be able to compete the other elite teams like the Golden State Warriors, the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
