Fans of the superhero film were left in awe when the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" trailer rolled out around a week ago. Fans finally got to see their favorite characters again -- the talking raccoon, the green woman with knives, the wisecracking white dude with the disappearing helmet and the woman with antennae.
Who is this green woman with antennae who can sense emotions with touch? This left fans of "Guardians of the Galaxy" speculating. While the new trailer of the sequel doesn't offer up a whole lot of info about the plot of the film itself, it does finally give us a look at Pom Klementieff's character, Mantis.
Mantis is a character that was created by writer Steve Englehart, which debuted in 1973 as a sidekick to an Avenger called Swordsman. While it wasn't clear just how her character will translate onto the big screen, considering her unusual backstory, Mantis' design fits perfectly into the story of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2."
As for her role in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Mantis joins 2007 miniseries "Annihilation Conquest: Star-Lord," which leads to the contemporary incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Mantis serves as a counselor of sorts to the team as her powers will be used to manipulate people into joining the team.
Written and directed by James Gunn, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" reunites Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) to battle a new threat. One of the team's adventure is to search for Peter Quill's father.
More of Mantis will be revealed as "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" hits the international screen on May 5, 2017. Until then, stay tuned here at Game & Guide for more "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" updates.
