‘Fast And Furious 8’ Release Date, News & Update: ‘Fate Of The Furious’ Trailer Breakdown; The 2 Biggest Surprises Revealed

The first trailer for next year's "Fast and Furious 8" has been released. To whet fans' appetites, Universal dropped the first full trailer for the upcoming eighth installment of the lucrative action film franchise this weekend. Prior to the trailer's release, a teaser was shared via the film's official Twitter account. It gave glimpses of the action-packed installment, its new villain, and multiple exploding cars.

"Fast and Furious 8" will hit cinemas more than two years after 2015's "Furious 7," the last film in the franchise to feature the late Paul Walker, one of the series' original protagonists. The film, which will reportedly be set in New York City, will find Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), one of the films' core good guys, breaking bad and joining forces with a mysterious and powerful new villain. To get Dom back and to stop the villain from unleashing chaos, the old "Fast and Furious" team members will reunite and will be dragged back into the world of crime and street racing. They must also enlist the help of Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), a former villain, who is now somehow one of the good ones. Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), the one responsible for ensuring Shaw's cooperation, is a good guy who was once also a bad guy.

In the new trailer for "Fast and Furious 8," fans get a sneak peek at the upcoming conflict between Dom and his former allies. In one scene, his friends try to intercept him by harpooning his car from five different vehicles. Dom somehow escapes this and even puts his former teammates' lives in danger when he flips two cars onto each other.

Apart from the main story about Dom's betrayal, there are two surprises in the "Fast and Furious 8" teaser. First, it introduces Cipher, the new baddie played by Charlize Theron, who has somehow turned Dom against his "family." Second, it reveals that the upcoming eighth installment is titled "Fate of the Furious." According to Wired, "Fate of the Furious" is the film's U.S. title. It will be known simply as "Fast and Furious 8" internationally. The film hits theaters on April 14.
