This year, it seems that the theme for films is creating villains out of heroes, given the success of both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Captain America: Civil War." Another film jumping on the protagonist-as-villain bandwagon is "The Fate of the Furious," the upcoming eighth installment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise. This time, the film is expected to make less than previous installments and features Dom as the bad guy. Here's why.
BGR reports that new trailer for the upcoming "The Fate of the Furious" has just dropped, and critics and fans were quick to point out that it features Dom as the bad guy. The F. Gary Gray movie finds Dom betraying his "family" to join Charlize Theron's Cipher. Theron's character is enigmatic and charming enough to get Dom back on the bad side, living a life of crime following his exoneration.
According to Forbes, "The Fate of the Furious" film's expected to make less than previous installments mostly because "Furious 7" will be difficult to surpass with its $1.5 billion revenue worldwide. In addition, the film may be relatively successful and still earn some good cash, especially now that it features Dom as the bad guy.
Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto has been on a very long journey, from being a criminal, to becoming exonerated, and now returning to his roots as the bad guy. But there's also Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who proved his worth in the last couple of "Furious" films. In "The Fate of the Furious," fans get a glimpse of him in jail, something the movie will have to explain when it arrives on April 14, 2017.
Check out the trailer for "The Fate of the Furious" below and make sure to leave a comment. It's great that they decided to come up with a new title for the franchise's eight installment, but wouldn't it be so much more awesome if they stylized it as "F8 of the Furious?"
