A legendary king is set for a box office battle with a gang of space misfits next summer. Charlie Hunnam's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" has been pushed back to an early May release date, pitting the Guy Ritchie action flick against Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2".
But will the Charlie Hunnam starrer be able to beat the MCU flick in the box office showdown? Fans are optimistic that "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" will bring in the big bucks and dethrone "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" as next summer's top grosser.
Charlie Hunnam's 'King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword' Pushed Back For Summer Release Date, Set To Fight 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' In Box Office
According to Variety, "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" has once again been moved to a new release date in May 12, 2017. The Charlie Hunnam movie was initially scheduled for July 22 this year before getting pushed back to February 17, 2017 then March 24, 2017. Hopefully, the new premiere date will stick, since the Guy Ritchie project is now set to follow up on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2".
There is little doubt that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be one of the biggest movies of summer 2017, but "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" is also set to bring in the competition at the box office. Charlie Hunnam's gritty version of the classic Camelot tale is expected to be the movie to watch for "Game of Thrones" Season 7 fans.
Will Charlie Hunnam's 'King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword' Beat 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2' At The Box Office?
It looks like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will have an edge because (let's be honest here) it has Baby Groot. However, "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" also has Charlie Hunnam so it's set to be a close fight.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is set to premiere on May 5, 2017. Charlie Hunnam stars in "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword", which is scheduled for release on May 12, 2017.
