Have you ever found it troublesome to keep whipping out your smartphone and using it whenever you want to take and upload a photo or video to social media app Snapchat? Would you rather that you can just look at something and record it with your own eyes? Well, Snapchat has heard you, so they put out the new Snapchat Spectacles for you to play with, and make snapping as easy as, well, breathing.
The reviews of the Snapchat Spectacles are in, and so far for the trouble they're worth, they're a really good deal for people still addicted to Snapchat. PC Mag claims in their review that the interaction between the hardware and the Snapchat app is well-executed, amplifying and making the act of taking snaps even more convenient with the tap (and hold) of a single button on the glasses. It's already as easy as pulling out your phone and taking something with your camera, but there's something to be said about merely looking at something and recording it.
However, the Snapchat Spectacles are also not without its own shortcomings. Android Authority claims that getting a hold of the shades are a struggle enough on its own. You have to find a vending machine through the Spectacles' official website, which will tell you a random location to go. At that place, you'll also deal with a lot of people lining up for theirs. After that, setting it up is very easy. Another issue is that the Spectacles only have one size, so people with big heads and faces may have a hard time wearing them.
Despite the Snapchat Spectacles' initial criticisms, it's still a worthwhile purchase for anyone who wants to make even more out of their Snapchat accounts. Snapchat has a lot to do to beat their latest competitor in Instagram, which has made what Snapchat does even easier and more accessible to more people. Creating stylish and useable wearable tech for their platform may be that crucial first step.
