Destiny has jumped back into news after its official appearance on the latest issue of Game Informer, where a massive amount of details were revealed, supposedly the biggest since its announcement.
The information for the game arrived via Reddit, with one forum member clearly stating: “Alright, so I imagine that there are a few of you in the same boat as me and can't get a hold of the January Gameinformer for one reason or another. Thankfully, bungie.net users have started posting summaries. Here is what I was able to scrape together so far.”
Before we go through the entire reveal for the game, keep in mind that most of these details are second-hand and there can be differences between what you read and what the game will contain when it's finally released.
According to the details, whether playing as a Titan, a Warlock, or Hunter, players will be able to wield the same guns, although armor remains class-specific, with players also being able to pick a "Focus" to further differentiate on their gameplay approach.
Each Focus has a ‘super ability’ associated with it, and will comprise of a set of tiered upgrades like weapon specialization bonuses, and movement abilities like double jump or teleport, different grenade types, alongside a special ability like the Warlock's Nova Bomb, known for blowing stuff up.
The game is said to feature a save location point called the Tower, which will be your home base where you return after the completion of every mission.
“There are vendors, you can turn in quest items, we can interact with other players in open plazas, and it also has class focused areas (specific designated areas) for hunters, warlocks, and titans. (Described as Earth's Camelot),” the post adds.
It adds that an Old Russia setting has been featured in the game which also is “One of the first places we visit for our missions.” The setting has been designed amongst “the ruins of the cosmodrome (modeled after Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan). It was an important place during the Golden Age for outer space exploration, hence all the colony ships left over unlaunched) Fallen hideout.”
Also, our good old moon has been portrayed in the game as a former human colony that features interconnected bases. However, after its fall, “the Hive have infested building underground tunnels and the Hellmouth. Surface of the moon is now fractured.”
Planets like Venus and Mars can be visited during gameplay. While Venus “Used to be a scientific research facility during the Golden Age," now, "the Venusian ocean is rising on the decaying buildings. Now there lies a tower called the Vex Citadel that they defend heavily,” Mars was a heavily populated metropolis, “but now is buried in the red sands of Mars. Both the cabal and vex stake claim, causing a dispute between them. Turf war.”
Apparently, there’s something called the "ghost" which everybody gets, apart from a customizable personal vehicle (Sparrow) to travel in open-world environments, and a space ship that will be visible to people when players drop in and out of activities.
As far as gameplay is concerned, the game will see all its players placed together “in one massive world and links you with smaller groups at appropriate locations and times.”
“When entering a public place a designated number of players (solo/fireteams/etc..) will be allowed to take on the challenge (as to not allow a swarming mass of guardians during engagements). So essentially entering a public place puts you in a unique server (shard) where others can join that specific battle,” the post adds.
In-game side missions will also be present, and can pop up anywhere or anytime, even in the middle of a mission. Players can choose to play these side missions or not. The missions range “from escorting a VIP to safety or killing a certain amount of enemy types.”
Slain enemies are said to drop something called ‘Glimmer’ that will also act as the primary currency in the game. It’s basically a “rare, energy-based substance left over from the Golden Age.”
Destiny is currently scheduled for releases next year for Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360, with a public beta also happening in early 2014.
