Sony is living in cloud nine as PlayStation 4 breached the mark for 50 million units sold over Black Friday. Apart from consoles themselves, Sony is also boasting a record of almost 370 million games sold for PlayStation 4. These figures were accumulative of retail and digital copies that gamers purchased since November 2013 release.
Now if PlayStation 4 is to compare its sales to its rival Xbox One, PS4 inched away in terms of sales in November. This development brought a halt to Xbox's sales dominance since second quarter of 2016. PS4 was eating Xbox's dust since July until its resurgence last month.
Game Rant made an interesting analogy of how impressive PlayStation 4 fared in the gaming market. Comparably, Nintendo's Wii U pegged at 12 million units sold since its conception. If Xbox One is to be taken into the equation, it sold over 18 million units. Meaning, PlayStation 4 still sold 20 million more units than Nintendo and Microsoft combined!
Make no mistake about it, neither Nintendo nor Microsoft is showing badly in sales. Just put it this way, PlayStation 4 is simply registering exceptional sales, Business Insider assessed. And there's more, current trend shows that PlayStation 4 will continue to dominate until few years more. Does it give a hint why Sony decided to release a mid-generation PS4 Pro instead of full PlayStation 6?
If we are to dissect the reason behind PlayStation 4 prominence, it can point to an impressive array of game titles. There are exclusive titles as well that has huge number of followers like a reboot of "Ratchet and Clank" and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."
Now here is something to add about PlayStation 4 success; PlayStation Network is doing well too. PSN recorded $76.7 during PlayStation 4 tenure. Remember that we haven't included PlayStation VR in the whole affair. That Time Magazine awardee as best invention of 2016 might have elevated the game further.
