Metal Gear Solid 5 is probably stepping up to become one of the biggest releases in the near future, but not all hype is good hype. The game's female sniper, Quiet, has been a controversial figure following her reveal, given her so-called attire. After all thses months the controversy is still very much on with Hideo Kojima now coming forward to explain why his developing team will not simply show “a hot girl” on screen “without reason.”
Speaking recently to IGN in a video interview, Kojima confirmed that his company is not the kind of establishment that will showcase a scantily clothed female without any reason. Kojima explained that nothing will happen in the game without a reason, even if it seems like something that’s exaggerated.
“I was actually surprised to learn that there are so many female Metal Gear fans and I am very happy to hear that. I can tell them though they are probably mistaken as to why the character looks like this. I only ask them for their patience,” he stated.
“Until they can see how she interacts in the game first off, she shows off in the desert and she is almost naked. That’s impossible and would never happen.”
“Right then I want the players to ask themselves ‘why is this character almost naked in the middle of the desert?’ From there you have this impression and then you start to understand the reasons behind it. That’s where the deception of the character comes from. We’re not a game company that would just show a hot girl without reason,” he added.
While we nor anyone else is in a position to judge anyone or anything until the final game is here, we can question. Specifically, WHY a character suddenly appears in skimpy clothes in the middle of nowhere.
Now we all know that Quiet’s not exactly pulling off a Pamela Anderson-inspired "Barb Wire" here, but then why exactly is she dressed like that? Is it maybe because she’s some kind of an assassin whose cover-up job is being a model or perhaps some "older profession?" Or maybe the reason is something quirkier. After all, we are talking about a series featuring a bisexual vampire, fat guy on roller skates, and an octogenarian sniper with a photosynthetic body.
Whatever it is, the real “reason” behind Quiet’s personal choice of dressing will be revealed once Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain releases sometime in 2014 or 2015. Or maybe, we might just get lucky and pick a few trails up on this when the game’s prologue Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes arrives next year for both current and next generation consoles.
