The highly anticipated new Nokia Android phones could be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017. Sources say that the popular annual event could see Nokia either debuting the new Nokia Android phones or give fans a sneak peek at the upcoming devices.
While there have been reports that the new Nokia Android smartphones will be released before the end of the year, Digital Trends reports that a slide from a Nokia Technologies presentation indicated that the company's long-awaited return to smartphones is scheduled for 2017. And because the Mobile World Congress is the biggest annual event in the mobile industry, it makes sense that Nokia will make its comeback at the MWC. The outlet notes that Nokia is not new to product launches at the MWC and that evidence points to the Finnish tech company having a major presence at next year's Mobile World Congress.
Adding fuel to the speculation that the Nokia Android phones will be launched at the MWC 2017 is the fact that Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri will be making a keynote speech at the event. Many are thus anticipating that Suri will take the opportunity to introduce Nokia's latest range of smartphones during his speech. If so, Nokia and Android fans can probably expect the Nokia Android phones to be released by March 2017.
However, Digital Trends points out that though Suri is delivering one of the keynote speeches at the MWC 2017, Nokia could opt to unveil the Nokia Android phones during a separate press conference or event at the MWC. The Mobile World Congress 2017 will be held between February 27 and March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. Nokia and HMD Global, the Finnish company that bought Nokia's mobile arm this year, will both be at the event.
Because Nokia is attempting to re-enter a market in which it was once the leader, the new Nokia Android phones are expected to come with impressive new features. HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela recently spoke about the upcoming Nokia handsets, saying: "It will be premium quality [and a] design that people will immediately recognize as Nokia." Nummela also said that the Nokia Android phones will be "very strongly competitive in pricing position" and that the company is "extremely confident on the lineup that [it has] developed."
