Bassist Justin Chancellor on New Tool Album: ‘I’m excited that there’s going to be another album and the material will be very inspiring’

Tool members are known for being extremely critical about their work and they take a lot of time to release new albums. Bassist Justin Chancellor has revealed that the band is deep into the process of writing the new Tool album.

In an interview with Bass Player, Chancellor talked about Tool's status.

"We're pretty deep into the writing process now, and we've narrowed things down to big groups of ideas. For the past few months we've been working on one of the newer songs fairly exclusively. We get the gist of it and find the main themes that make up the skeleton between verses and choruses," Chancellor said about the new album's stage.

He added that they explore various ways to pull out from what they have and later come back to it and turn it upside down. The bassist stated that they are "trying to be responsible" with themselves in exploring ideas that they haven't discovered before.

He said during the interview that they enjoy the process of exploring ideas for a song and agreed that a song can take several months. Chancellor talked about the gaps between the albums and mentioned that writing is "grueling process" for them.

"We're our own worst critics; we're doing our best to find something that blows us all away, and we want each other to be completely happy with what we produce. I'm excited that there's going to be another album and the material will be very inspiring. So why rush it now?"
