'Moana' Latest News & Updates: The Film Tops in the U.S Box Office Again, See The Top Ten Films This Weekend!

This weekend, "Moana," Disney's animated movie was the number one movie at the U.S. box office again. The movie has been number one for three consecutive weeks since its premiere in late November.

Entertainment Weekly reports that between Dec. 9 and 11, "Moana" earned around $18.8 million while it ballooned to $238.8 million worldwide. The movie "Office Christmas Party" that debuted on Dec. 9 was the sole major competition of "Moana" this weekend, which made $17.5 million during its opening.

According to GameSpot, another distinguished debut was "La La Land," Damien Chazelle's musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, which made $855,000 domestic gross from only five theaters in the United States. Per theater, this average makes it the highest of the year and one of the highest of all time.

The top ten U.S. box office from Dec. 9 - 11 in particular order are "Moana" with $18.8 million earnings, "Office Christmas Party" with $17.5 million, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" that made $10.8 million, "Arrival," which made $5.6 million, "Doctor Strange" with $4.6 million. "Allied" hits the sixth spot with $4 million, "Nocturnal Animals," which made $3.2 million, "Manchester By the Sea" with $3.16 million, "Trolls" that earned $3.11 million and lastly, "Hacksaw Ridge," which made $2.3 million.

Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, "Moana" is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical fantasy adventure film, which is Disney's 56th animated feature film. The film features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Auli'i Cravalho, Temuera Morrison, Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, Alan Tudyk and Nicole Scherzinger.

The movie "Moana" is about the story of the cast-ironed Moana who was chosen by the ocean to bring back together a mystical relic with a deity. She went sailing to look for the renowned Maui, a demigod hoping to save her fellows when a blight hit her island.

"Moana" was released in theaters in the United States in Disney Digital 3-D, D-Box, RealD 3Das well as premium large formats on Nov. 23, 2016. It earned critical acclaim to its music, animation and voice cast.
