Pokemon Go has a new rival. Although Nintendo has scored a hit with the successful debut of the augmented-reality game, Sony has quietly released a popular mobile game titled "Fate/Grand Order" to compete with Pokemon Go.
The new Pokemon Go rival titled "Fate/Grand Order," is a game that is based on the anime TV series "Fate" that allows the players to return to the past. The players are enabled to team up with some historical characters like Joan of Arc and Julius Caesar to save humanity from an impending disaster.
In other news, "Fate/Grand Order" has been at the top of Japan's app revenue rankings for the entire year and has been downloaded for over 7 million times since the game's July 2015 debut. In fact, the game has reportedly made more revenue compared to Pokemon Go among the Android users, 104 out of 133 days in 2016, and 51 days on iOS devices, also in the same period, based on the researcher App Annie.
Furthermore, when Sony announced its latest quarterly figures in November, Sony Chief Financial Officer Kenichiro Yoshida singled out the game during a press conference, revealing that it is still providing a positive contribution to the music division, where the game is actually based, according to report.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the popularity of Pokemon Go has significantly plummeted just months following its release. Further reports indicate that the number of daily users of Pokemon Go in the UK has declined from a peak of 1.7 million down to around 53,000.
Based on this, a global trend seems to have seen that Pokemon Go has lost over 15 million since the game's sensational launch in July. However, despite being named by Google as the biggest mobile game in 2016, critics believe that Pokemon Go's lack of development is the main reason for the rapid downfall, Daily Star reported.
