Fans of the science fiction action film are surely saddened by the news that "Avatar 2" isn't going to be released anytime in 2018. Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Grace Augustine in "Avatar," made an announcement that "Avatar 2" hasn't started filming yet.
When "Avatar" hit the international screens in 2009 and had great reviews, it's no surprise to learn soon afterward that a sequel is on the way. Seven years later, though, "Avatar 2" has yet to be released in theaters.
Avatar director James Cameron made the dual announcement back in April that there will actually be four new Avatar sequels instead of three, while pushing "Avatar 2's" release up a year to December 2018. As to when exactly "Avatar 2" production will begin, the director left no answer.
Meanwhile, Weaver expressed doubts on whether "Avatar 2" will be ready by that date. "We haven't started it, so I don't know how realistic that date is, but I think it's going to be very exciting. I've read three of the four sequel's scripts, and they're even more extraordinary than the first one." Weaver said.
It was reported back in February that Cameron was scheduled to start production on "Avatar 2" this past April in New Zealand. It's possible that production might begin next spring in New Zealand. This report has yet to be confirmed.
There are no major plot details of "Avatar 2" revealed yet, but the director said that the sequels will introduce whole new worlds, habitats, and cultures. This could mean that fans will get to meet some different kinds of intelligent alien species. Cameron also spilled the beans that the storyline will follow Jake and Neytiri and their children. This time, it's going to be more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans. Stay tuned here at Game & Guide for more "Avatar 2" updates.
