Epic Games' Paragon continues to draw praise for its powerful graphic experience, what with the fact that it has exhausted much of the Unreal Engine 4's capabilities. Notwithstanding that, several players have criticized the game for being too slow in terms of gameplay. The map's vast expanse, which requires the use of travel mode for faster navigation, adds greater drag to the lengthy nature of matches - notorious for their seemingly never-ending clashes lasting for more than an hour.
Now, with the release of the Monolith update, Paragon's overall gameplay experience is set to change. Epic Games has introduced a smaller map in place of the old one - now dubbed as "Legacy," that no longer requires the use of travel mode while providing a greater sense of excitement with its more-enclosed nature. Enemy encounters can thus take place at a faster rate, adding greater intensity to the game's promise of action-packed excitement, Kotaku has reported.
Thus, Monolith has necessitated a set of sweeping changes across Paragon's systems. Apart from removing the travel mode, the rest of the update has been devoted to speeding up the entire game, according to PC Gamer. Both basic attack and ability damage took the place of energy and physical damage respectively, perfectly complementing the expedited abilities. Interestingly, respawn times have been reduced thanks to the smaller map.
Overall, Epic Games has effectively transformed Paragon's gameplay from one that frustrates to one that electrifies. Game elements once described as "immovable" - match length and map size, have been addressed largely through a bottom-up overhaul. Cameron Winston, Lead Hero Designer at Epic Games, attested to that himself, saying "...these changes came from the original idea that we couldn't make the game work on the map that we had.""We wanted to reduce the size of the map but we also wanted to fix other problems with our game. We also didn't like that...the map didn't reinforce the playstyle the way it does in most other MOBAs," Winston said of the Monolith update.Watch Paragon's feature on the Monolith update below:
