"Shameless" Season 7 is currently showing before it will wrap up for the winter break with the remaining two episodes left. On its last showing on December 4 it garnered an average viewership of 1.3 million. However, at this time there are threatening signals coming from the star Emmy Rossum regarding salary issues.
It can be recalled that "Shameless" Season 7 has a history of renewals being done earlier even before the showing of the next season. This time around this is not holding true for the American comedy-drama, which was adopted from the British award-winning series of the same title. One major issue that is challenging the producers is the Emmy Rossum's claim for a pay raise equal to her male counterpart, William H. Macy.
According to TVseriesfinale, Rossum who is playing Fiona wants to renegotiate her pay, which has been inked for "Shameless" Season 7 & 8. She wants a pay salary that is equal to that of Macy who is casts as the drug and alcohol addicted Frank Gallagher. It was reported also that Macy had re-negotiated for his pay increase with Warner Bros.
Additionally, "Shameless" Season 7 is likely facing a non-renewal pending the results of the salary negotiations as revealed by Spoilertv. Rossum has to push for a standoff in her position as she is paid lower than Macy for many years and seasons already. She cited the experiences of other stars who have succeeded in their negotiations like Robin Wright of House of Cards to strengthen her claim.
"Shameless" Season 7 is now on a deadlock on whether this will be the last season or a season 8 will be coming. Rossum threatens that if she will not get the pay raise, she will be constrained to leave the series.
