If any of you Assassin’s Creed fans out there are still looking ahead to a game that will be set in modern times, you’re probably in for a heartbreak since a recently revealed Easter Egg for the game has explained why Abstergo Entertainment will not be looking to leave out the possibility of a modern setting for the franchise.
According to the Easter Egg, the reason to avoid a modern setting for any Assassin’s Creed game is because of the use of vehicles that would be incorporated to a game in the modern setting, and that’s exactly what the franchise wants to avoid.
“Let’s avoid digging into any modern periods (i.e. 20th century) unless we find something incredibly compelling. Because, as fun as a World War Two setting might sound, we’d do well to avoid any settings with vehicles: cars, motorcycles, helicopters, tanks, etc.,” the Easter Egg states, as revealed via Reddit.
“Why? You may ask. Because our research has shown that ‘memory imprinting’ in individuals is actually hampered by the semi-catatonic state most people enter when driving for medium and long periods of time… and this makes data retrieval somewhat more difficult,” it adds.
“In short, we don’t want to go through the effort of coding extra Animus features just for the sake of digging up memories of people driving around in cars. There are other and more efficient ways to experience that.”
While that’s the justification we all will have to live with until the team decides otherwise and does indeed release an Assassin’s Creed title with a modern setting, it does seems somewhat logical since it would be a bit weird to see the next assassin stepping out of a low-rider, or Ferrari.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was released worldwide for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October.
