The Dallas Maverick find themselves at the bottom of the NBA Western Conference standings though there is still time to recover. To do that, some personnel changes may be needed and one name has surfaced – Andrew Bogut.
Andrew Bogut ended up with the Mavericks following an offseason deal that involved Kevin Durant. He and Harrison Barnes were dealt to free up some cap space for the one-time MVP but the move has not been a fruitful one to date.
The 32-year-old center is owed $11 million until the end of the current season after which he is expected to become a free agent. Bogut could be a good rim protector for any team for as long as he manages to stay healthy. The Australian cager is currently out of action due to bad knees, NBC reported.
Regardless, a couple of teams are reportedly interested in acquiring Bogut. The Boston Celtics and the Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly interested in acquiring the 7-footer despite his spate of injuries, CBS Sports reported. The obvious reason is to ramp up their defensive ends with Bogut known to be a tough defender.
The Mavericks would do well to consider the interest of the Celtics and Blazers, a chance for them to free themselves of $11 million this season. They could opt for younger players or even future picks, part of a rebuilding mode that the team needs.
Also, Bogut is more than likely lost after this season anyway. At his age, Bogut is expected to look at more NBA titles and the Mavericks don’t seem to be the team satisfying that wish.
The Celtics loom as the best team to hand Bogut another title, seeing how the team has the proper players in place. Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas lead the pack, not to mention a pack of promising young players such as Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley.
