With the long wait for "The Winds of Winter," many fans have been speculating on what is about to happen. Good news though, as the novel's author, George R.R. Martin, has been actively updating about the progress of the book, with the latest one being the next installment would be a dark one.
George R.R. Martin, through a recent interview, gave a glimpse of what could be expected when "The Winds of Winter" gets released in the future. The renowned author who is notorious for horrendously killing off both beloved and hated characters had revealed that "The Winds of Winter" will contain chapters that are darker than everything he has ever written.
Martin said that one of the preview chapters released was indeed a dark one. Since the first installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" last 1996, one of the most prominent themes in the series was that "Winter is Coming." Indeed, after 20 years, the Winter will finally come in "The Winds of Winter."
The Winter is known in the fictional universe as the time when almost everything dies, and the world is encapsulated with cold, ice and darkness. With the way things currently are in the most recently released novel, some characters would be in very dark situations in "The Winds of Winter."
The author then admitted early on that the ending of "The Winds of Winter" will definitely not please everyone, as it will showcase deaths of many major characters. As already evident in the previous installments, Martin is not exactly a fan of fairytale endings.
While the main plot of "The Winds of Winter" will obviously focus on the Starks, the Lannisters, and the Targaryens, two of the most conniving characters in the series would also be competing. Varys and Littlefinger would finally best each other, with many rumors suggesting that Varys would eventually win due to his immense knowledge. Fans are expecting for "The Winds of Winter" to be released on March 2017.
