If there's an award for most talked about team in the NBA's trade rumor mill, the Boston Celtics would most likely win that award by a landslide. Since last summer up until today in winter, the Boston Celtics have been constantly talked about in trade rumors. The reason being is that the Boston Celtics are the most aggressive and have the most assets to trade. In this latest trade rumor, the Boston Celtics are reportedly eyeing Klay Thompson, Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins.
While this latest rumor would led us to believe that Danny Ainge is just targeting anyone until he hits someone, it's more likely that the Boston Celtics have a plan in place. For starters, the Boston Celtics already have a star on their team in Al Horford. Plus they have a rising star in point guard Isaiah Thomas. If the Boston Celtics ever make a trade, it would most likely be for a player who could play with both Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas.
Which brings us to the first player the Boston Celtics are targeting - Klay Thompson. Klay Thompson has proven that he knows how to play alongside a superstar player. He's playing with two right now in Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Plus he's also got Draymond Green with him at Golden State.
The Klay Thompson to the Celtics rumor began when Brian Scalabrine said on a radio show last month that Klay Thompson could be headed to the Boston Celtics. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr quickly shot down the rumors.
The second player is DeMarcus Cousins. While DeMarcus may be a great addition to the Boston Celtics, he may not be a good fit to the team. The Boston Celtics already have Al Horford, which they are planning to use as center. Plus DeMarcus Cousins carries a lot "extra baggage" in the locker room and off the court as well. So that might turn off Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.
The third player and the most likely target of the Boston Celtics is Paul George. Currently, Paul George's team the Indiana Pacers is not performing well this season. Paul George also refused to sign an extension with the Indiana Pacers which can be seen as he wants out. And of course there's the Boston connection of Larry Bird and Danny Ainge. Remember the Kevin Garnett trade to the Boston Celtics back in 2007? Kevin McHale was with the Minnesota Timberwolves during that time.
So among the three scenarios, Paul George is the one that's most likely going to happen. But no matter what happens, the fact remains that the Boston Celtics have the assets to be major players before the trade deadline.
